Holding a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto and licensed since 2013, Dr. Metcalfe has contributed significantly to various areas, including advanced manufacturing, nondestructive testing, and inspection. He specializes in practical application of AI, machine learning, and simulation within the manufacturing sector and has overseen the development of AI-based solutions for quality control and inspection processes. Prior to joining Illuminex AI, Dr. Metcalfe established a successful consulting firm, providing engineering and business expertise to a diverse clientele. His consultancy work has forged long-term relationships based on trust and results. Dr. Metcalfe is dedicated to building an AI ecosystem and driving practical applications of AI in engineering, as evidenced by his continued service as a founding Board member of the AI 4 Manufacturing Canada industry network and his role as a technical advisor to the venture-backed start-up, Ayrton Energy.
